Member: Chief Ray Schultz

Chief Ray Schultz is a life-long law enforcement officer. Beginning his career with the Albuquerque Police Department in 1982 as a patrol officer, Chief Schultz has worked his way up through the ranks of the Albuquerque Police Department. Assignments have included Uniformed Patrol, DWI Unit, K-9, Records, Inspections and Accreditation, the Crime Laboratory and CSI Investigations, Operations Review and the Police Academy. Chief Schultz retired from APD in 2003 at the rank of Deputy Chief in charge of Patrol Operations. Upon retirement, Chief Schultz was hired by the Scottsdale Police Department where he was the Deputy Chief in Charge of Professional Development and Investigations. In 2005, Mayor Martin Chavez requested Chief Schultz return to Albuquerque to lead the Department as the 16th Chief of the Department. Chief Schultz and his family returned to Albuquerque and took command of the department in April 2005. Since returning to Albuquerque, Chief Schultz has initiated numerous new projects for the citizens of Albuquerque. Most notable include the creation of the Albuquerque Family Advocacy Center, the opening of the 6th Area Command that now serves Northwest Albuquerque, a new Prisoner Transportation and Processing Center, a new comprehensive information and computer system, several Safe City Initiatives, the nationally recognized Crisis Outreach and Support Team (COAST) and the Albuquerque Retail Assets Protection Association (ARAPA). Chief Schultz holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Management, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Northwest Law Enforcement Executive Development Program and the National Executives Institute. Chief Schultz sits on several boards and commissions to include the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy Board, the Governors Commission against Domestic Violence and the Drug Enforcement Advisory Committee.

Ray is married to Connie and they are the parents of 3 children.
